Pretty interesting concept I really liked the story telling here. Especially how the story is told from the position of a poor kid who lives with his mother whom in which is a smoker and enjoys gambiling shes one of those parentsthatare very focused on themselves because she really doesn't care about him in the slightest especiallywhen youlook at the fact that shes letting him suffer a life style such as this one thathes given. I really like that girls character because she seems to take on the role that his mother was supposed to take and she does a way better job than she does now while she is psychopathic in a sense she really to to take care of him alot more in comparison.i look for things like this in a story as a researcher I look for great characters,backstories and ect.. all in all this was a good read a very interesting concept indeed
Great analysis, but you should've taken it further. The mother is wasting her money on gambling, smoking and alcohol. Three bad habits that take up all of her money. In the beginning of the, *ahem* book, she was complaining about how the school should know that single mothers often come up short. While it's true that single mothers do struggle, no single mother struggles to the degree that she is, with only one child. This shows just how shitty of a person she truly is. She is unempathetic, narcistic, manipulative, neglectful, and abusive. When you compare her to the Onee San next door, you start to approach a moral dilemma of loving the Onee san, whilst also being conflicted with the fact she sees children as competition, and is willing to go as far as murdering said children.
Personally, I view the Onee san as a good person, who took it too far, sort of a Chaotic good.
Then you have the mother who, though is guilty of many things, never directly harmed someone. Sure, she is sociopathic/psychopathic (Shown by her lack of empathy), and yes, she is manipulative and mentally abusive, however she never physically harmed anyone. Things like this really bring out the morality in humans, and make you question what crimes are truly worse, and who is and isn't a bad person.
Again, I personally view the mother as the villain, as she is psychologically torturing her own child. Her outlook on life, and the things she is saying to her kid are things that are perfectly normal to say to an adult, but when you consider the fact that her child isn't even in kindergarten yet, you can really see how warped she truly is.
Though, I believe that Takuya is getting amazing treatment from the Onee san, and feel as though her crimes of rape and stalking can be overlooked (Because as Takuya grows up, he will not look back at those memories in disgust, but with a fondness for the woman who saved his life, as he most definitely would've starved to death), it's much harder to overlook the horrible crime of murdering two children, both of which did nothing wrong. I feel as though it would've been justifiable if she killed the teacher instead of the children, as the teacher is a full grown woman, who is also manipulative, abusive and psychotic, where as the kids did nothing wrong.
So, I completely agree with you that this was a good read, nay, a great read. It'd be criminal to not get a continuation.
